The Pathways Institute for Impulse Control offers training and credentialing for therapists interested in working with people who suffer from compulsive stealing disorders and kleptomania.
Pathways Institute offers a 2-day (13 hour) training, which includes diagnostic considerations, case conceptualizations, assessments (and assessment tools) and treatment. This 2-day course is a requirement for certification. This course also meets the qualifications for 13 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Pathways Institute offers certification as a Certified Problem Stealing Therapist (CPST). This certification includes the above training in addition to required weekly supervised hours of one year of working with patients who suffer from compulsive stealing disorders. Pathways Institute is the only program in the United States with the expertise and knowledge to offer this type of certification.
“This training met my objectives fully and I left feeling prepared to implement the material and confident I could ask for further support in the future. I especially appreciated how attentive the instructors were, and how clear their knowledge, passion, and experience is for treating this population.” – Workshop Attendee
